A Short Biography |
Born and raised in Southern California, I began playing music in 1965 as the drummer in a garage band playing surf tunes and rock ‘n roll at parties and dances. I became interested in the guitar about the same time and, influenced by the folk and rock music of the period, was writing and performing my own songs by the Junior year of high school. |
After serving in the army then returning back home for a few years, I relocated to Idaho/Utah then on to Washington for a different perspective on life than SoCal had to offer. I became acquainted with ranch and farm work as well as country music. In the 80's I was performing at numerous clubs, lounges and events throughout Okanogan County as a solo act, a duo with B. Fisher and as a member of the band Mountain Depot. |
During that period of time I managed a music store (the Midstate Connection) where I also taught guitar, harmonica and autoharp. As house sound technician for the store, I had the opportunity to work various venues with such acts as Elvin Bishop, Savoy Brown and Junior Cadillac. |
Impressed and influenced by the early solo efforts of Emitt Rhodes and Paul McCartney, I invested in a modest recording setup in 1982 to put my songs into recordings. While studying recording engineering I gained experience by recording demos for local artists and bands. |
After relocating several more times over the years I am presently living in the beautiful high desert of southern New Mexico. My musical styles range from the blues to western, from ballad to rock and beyond. Web site and all original files and materials within ©2000-2024 Vernon Batty |
